What do icons represent?

The figure of christ represents gender and religious statements in the Palestinian culture, and in the world in general. What happens when you fragment the icon, replace it by male and female fragmented crucifixion and omit the patriarchal symbol of the ego “the penis”?

Recasting stereotypes

The male is represented and constructed in our culture, with all the stereotyping pictures and suppressing mechanisms. The artist wants to free the man and the woman from the normative codes of our culture, and reshape different perspectives.

As Hannah Wilke recasts phallocentric stereotypes in terms of female eroticism and transformed penis envy into what Wilke called “Venus Envy”.
