The Ontology of the Blind
A physical installation of performance, sound, and visuals challenge metaphysics and emotions, by Rabia Salfiti & Adi Shulhut, Kabareet, 2017
The Ontology of Narcissus, Echo, and the Blind
A creative interpretation of the mythical story of Narcissus and Echo from Ovid’s epic poem, Metamorphoses, and transposing its ancient narrative into a 21st century context of the politics of representations.
Throughout the performance, Salfiti is walking on a treadmill with blinders on his eyes, facing a floor-to-ceiling video projection that shows excerpts of various video art shot by Salfiti about simple everyday life like “boat crossing the sea”, “clouds crossing the sky”, “Israhell”, “Matteo wondering”, “self portrait”, “The door”, “Water and Earth”, “A flag” among others, accompanied by the music sounds of artist Adi Shulhut, that delve into the intertwining yet seemingly unresolvable sounds with an attempt to redefining them.
Can you be Narcissus and Echo at the same time?
The Ontology of the Blind is a multimedia performance and display of sound and visuals. Interplayed in one space; the relationship between the intersection of the mediums is exposed along with the dissonance. This is an attempt to delve into the sonic obscurity by capturing capricious sounds and redefining them.
Destination and experience are intertwined. The images that draw you in are a part of the experience of transporting yourself to the physical barriers that stop you.
